For their summer concert, Hesperos choir perform Ralph Vaughan Williams' Mass in G Minor of 1921 and Gerald Finzi's Festal Anthem Lo, the Full, Final Sacrifice. The Mass in G Minor is Vaughan Williams' homage to the polyphonic English Mass settings of the sixteenth century, but with its own distinctive sound-world. It is written for double choir and solo quartet and has been described as a choral equivalent to the Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis. Finzi's Lo, the Full, Final, Sacrifice (1946) is considered one of the composer's finest works, setting a vivid Eucharistic text by Richard Crashaw for choir and substantial organ accompaniment. The choir will be joined by some singers from Tring School. The concert will last about 50 minutes, with wine, beer and soft drinks available beforehand and afterwards. Advance tickets, available through Ticket Tailor below, are £10 for general admission, £8 concession (Over 65/Under 25/Unwaged) or £12/£10 on the day. Under 12s free.
